The Return

everet 2

We leave, but it does not leave us, we turn away, yet it is there, we walk under the shade, yet its shadow follows, we talk sometimes, to get us through, to remember where we are, how we came to be, to stand upright upon solid ground, to salute all those that fell behind, to forgive those that drew out the lines that divided all our brothers in arms, to make amends with the heart that beats within us all, to find its rhythm again, to bring all the pain, all the beauty to the center of the chest, to hold it there so that it may learn to beat again as one.

Dedicated to all those on both sides of gun that did not return, inspired by Everett Carter, SR. Vietnam 1968-69
